MUGEN Mark Series
Top Row: Mark I/12, Mark III Maple, Mark II
Bottom Row: Mark V, Mark IV, Mark III, Mark V
The Mark Series was initially known as the MUGEN Series. There are five guitars in the line up: Mark I, Mark II, Mark III, Mark IV, and Mark V. The Mark III was also produced as part of the Maple Series. Initially all models were available as a 12 string, though the 1982 US catalog only shows the Mark I, II, and V to be available as a 12 string.
The Mark IV and Mark V have unique and distinct fretboard markers and bridge designs. The positioning of the Mark V fretboard markers are similar to the Woodcraft Series by Yamaki, but are round rather than triangle shaped. The Mark V also has a diamond shaped volute where the headstock joins the neck.
A feature of the Mark series is that the pick guard is made of wood and was sprayed with lacquer at the same time as the top of the guitar - thus the pick guard is sealed..
The Mark I /12 pictured below has a factory transducer, brass bridge, and volume and tone controls as seen on the ‘81 Caribou. The Mark V pictured at the bottom is listed as a “AYO33D” because that’s the model designation used by Great West Imports, Daion’s distributor in Canada.
